Kudos to Dkos diarist Magnifico

I have great admiration for diarists like Magnifico publishing information on the DailyKos website who have healthy and secure temperaments well above taking offenses to what the ‘creepy people’ have to say in the comment section.

I found the diary a treasure from the past. I was not aware of the information for whatever reason.

Fascinating 1860 Map of the U.S. Slave Population
by Magnifico
Excerpt:
The map depicts each county's slave population, with "the darker the shading, the higher the number of slaves", which is a "visually arresting way to see the range of slavery across the South without having to read a single data point," she writes. It was popular with President Lincoln and the American public after its publication. It was sold throughout the war "for the benefit of the sick and wounded soldiers."

Black and White in Chicago

I will never know why in 2004 Black Chicagoans chose Jack Ryan over the brilliant Black Community Worker Barack Obama to become their U.S. Senator elect.

It would be of the most unusual circumstances for Obama to have acquired his brilliance and rhetorical skills only after his opponent Jack Ryan dropped out of the race due to the releasing of divorce papers wherein his wife accused him of having quirky sexual fantasies involving her full and consensual participation. Court papers record her resistance.

Is history repeating itself? At this time in Chicago we have yet another brilliant Black, Ms. Carole Mosley-Braun competing for Mayor of Chicago against the emotionally challenged ex-side kick of Pres. Obama, Rahm Emanuel.

I am peeved with myself thinking Mr. Emanuel is going to be declared the winner on Feb. 22nd. Damn!! What am I missing?

Danny Davis Drops Out Of Chicago Mayor's Race

By SOPHIA TAREEN
Excerpt:
U.S. Rep. Danny Davis withdrew from the Chicago mayor's race Friday, leaving former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun as the only remaining prominent black candidate in the campaign.

And
"The realization is that Braun has broader appeal. She can bring in women as well as people of color," Washington said. "She has a national and even international resume she can draw on, and with that comes money."

A social revolution via “Made by Assange”

Of late, I am noticing a bunch of people calling for a revolution.
In my opinion, Julian Assange has created something as momentous as the passage,
"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. [Genesis, 1:1-3]" - The Bible

The communication instrument created by Mr. Assange et.al, will be the instrument or some form of it used to confront greedy and heartless oligarchies of the world. For example:
Americans need help in bringing crooks of the Bush administration to justice. They are urging world citizens to not purchase products (xyz) for the periods of one week from dates 1-10 of September with appropriate and instantaneous feed-back. They have citizen organizations in place in America to take the issue thereon once sustained attention has been transmitted to various parts of the targeted corporations.

2011: Tea Party, Coffee Party and Party Of No Labels

The Co-founder of the newly created Party of No Labels was on C-Span this morning. His name is William Galston.

A few weeks back when I first heard the name Party of No Labels, I immediately had thoughts of Michael Jackson being referred to as ‘a-sexual’ and after hearing a short segment of their mission statements on C-Span, my first impressions have not changed. If this political party can do to politics what Michael Jackson did to music, more power to them.

However and at this time, I feel stacking this newly created party up against the macho Tea Party would be akin to witnessing a fight between Mike Tyson and tear drenched John Boehner being dragged into the ring, kickin’ and screaming.

In other words, the party known as Party of No Labels has a long way to go to catch up with the resulting track record of TeaBaggers; a mighty looong way to go in a short amount of time. It’s a Missouri “Show me!” kind of thing.

The Coffee Party, created by Annabel Park is, (ahem) doing something in Washington, D.C. in a few weeks. The Coffee Party, by its very name, brings to mind the title, “The legend of Sleepy Hollow”. (Yawn) In any case, I wish them well.

Yes-sir-ree-Bob! 2011 is going to be another fascinating twelve months. Happy New Year!

Wanted: Manumission papers for Reps. Rangel, Waters and the President (A metaphor)

Can the President rescind or nullify the Congressional censure of Rep. Charlie Rangel? Will Rep. Maxine Waters be next? There is talk involving the President in a situation regarding *manumission papers. Finally, I note discussions heating up regarding RNC Chairman Michael Steele wanting his manumissions papers so he can be himself minus superfluous racial overtones.

Will 2011 be the year of manumissions? How much longer will we be denied?

*Manumission is the act of a slave owner freeing his or her slaves. In the United States before the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which abolished slavery, this often happened on the death of the owner, as a condition of their will.

Republicans: No Blacks wanted

I want to register an opinion. Not necessarily my own but rather in the form of ‘Could it be?’

I do not recall reading any account of '(the) GOP problem with people of color’ as clear and accurate as the one from Dkos diarist brooklynbadboy. Pulling from my own knowledge and personal experiences, I can attest to the accuracy of the diary and extend Kudos.

However, could it be Republicans do not want Blacks in their organization due to the fact there is always a group of creepy people following them around?

Could it be that if there were one Black attending the 'Republican Elected Officials Dinner' in Mississippi as per the inserted photo, the creepy people would zero in on the lone Black, thus rendering the entire dinner null and void?

Could it be the Republican Party, for whatever reasons, want to be a Christian organization and although Blacks are mostly Christians, the creepy folks following them around maybe ‘Christians in name only?’

If Blacks were embraced into the Republican Party, could it be the creepy people would also want to be accepted into the party to keep an eye on their Black prey thereby illuminating un-wanted distractions? "Blacks carry so much baggage with them."

Could it be the only way they could get in would be via our coat tails?

Could there therefore be a conclusion made it is not only Black Christians who are un-wanted in the party but also their creepy nemesis, who are sure to follow? Show me a Black Republican and I’ll show you a gaggle of creepy people gloating and strategizing not far away. Sad.

P.S. Look here, I also have a ‘Could it be’ as to why Sen. Obama, with assurance of a very long stay, was in breath taking moments whisked off the Senate floor to run for no less than President of the United States of America. (Smile)

Barbour furor obscures GOP problem with people of color
by brooklynbadboy
Excerpt:
The bottom line: Republican officials are hostile to people of color, especially blacks. That hostility is due directly to the Civil Rights Movement and the GOP's adoption of the Southern Strategy. Simply put, all the racists in the south and everywhere else became Republicans in response to the Democratic Party's acceptance of equality for people of all backgrounds.

And
While conservative ideology is a big reason for the GOP losing the black vote, that is not a sufficient explanation for losing 90% of it. I dare say that many wealthy or upper income Black Americans who may find a Republican candidate compelling still can't cross that line because the GOP is so hostile to minorities. If Republicans could ever get out from under their racism, the Democrats would have a real fight on their hands.

The Electoral College: A Democratic enigma (comments)

What readily comes to mind is a passage from a poem by Oliver Wendell Holmes we had to memorize in Mr. Griffiths’ 12th grade English Class, 1955: “Build ye more stately mansions, O my soul and make each nobler than the last.”

As far back as I can remember, after every Presidential election the word was, “We have to deal with the Electoral College”. I would say there were few not alarmed with the totally bizarre and circus atmosphere created by Sen. Obamas’ run for the ‘08 Presidency and the hovering dark clouds as to how members of the Electoral College would vote. In my opinion, there were many ‘Laugh to keep from crying’ moments during the time.

Immediately after a professor from James Mason University (I think his name was Soros. It started with an “S”) had a discussion on a show with Amy Goodman regarding the Electoral College, members of the blogosphere took over and well-guarded functions of the organization and the anonymity of its members were exposed. We found out during the process the entity named Electoral College was made from whole-cloth i.e., a labyrinth, a maze, a compilation of nebulous intersecting units. In other words, an organization positioned to thwart, confuse and polarize the will of the people during a Presidential election if there were a need. The words ‘benign nefarious’ come to mind.

I must admit the Electoral College is a brilliant political instrument but then so were the creations of the Democratic ‘White Citizens Council’ organizations.

During the ‘08 Presidential Elections, I felt exposure to the whims of members of the Electoral College vastly distracting and I hope its future irrelevancy has been well documented. I thank God the Republicans do not have their own Electoral College. The past season would have been un-bearable!

Now is the time to deal with the Electoral College issue. Now is the time to build more stately and nobler mansions. Is there a committee to do this or is it up to (gasp) Harry Reid or (Ye gods!) Nancy Tee-hee to initiate whatever is needed to retire that organization from our political scene?
