Wednesday, September 9, 8:00 PM at the Congress, located in Washington, D.C. staring Pres. Barack Obama as himself.
There have been no effective trailers for the up-coming event, only “What’s behind the closed door?” cliffhangers, teasers and perplexities. We were mis-led when told “No Obama drama” because this one is scheduled to be a real dosy!
I am mindful of some Bible scholars revealing to us how they know William Shakespeare wrote portions of the King James Version of the Bible by piecing his name together at certain intervals of a specific passage. I know our President along with many other politicians like for us to string together various segments of their speeches to come to whatever conclusions we desire but hopefully our President will not find that approach amusing to take. That approach does, however, drive the news cycles but this is no time in the President’s tenuous position for him to worry about and indeed entertain such trifles.
Why Pres. Obama has chosen to do his speech live in front of Congress is another can of worms. I myself would not put myself under that amount of pressure having to listen to those Senators and Congressmen who will be threatening to walk out and all that BS. I read a post suggesting a Fireside Chat a la Franklin Roosevelt would be another way of delivering his important message. However, if this
ObamaCare drama opening live at the Congress this Wednesday night is what he wants to do, so be it. (No wonder the man is graying so fast) George Bernard Shaw wrote, “To bad youth is wasted on the young.”
I myself will be anxiously awaiting a straight forward show-stopping soliloquy or something regarding “A Public Option!” Let’s hear a “I come not to bury Caesar” or “Everything’s coming up rosy” and if our President wants to be backed up by
Sweet Honey In The Rock or the
Bolshoi Ballet, I does not care; just speak the speech! Let us all see and hear “No Drama Obama” break his own record. It’s show time, ya’ll! You go, Mr. President!

Obama at a Crossroads

Excerpt: Opening paragraph
On Wednesday, President Obama will address a joint session of congress. The subject will be healthcare, and what he says is make-or-break, in more ways than one. He can get up there and basically repeat what he’s been saying all along, that reform will get done this year, that it ought to be bipartisan, that it has to do X, Y, and Z, and there are different ways of doing these things, all of which are on the table. Ho-hum stuff. That would be a big let-down, and it would essentially doom any chance of substantial reform, most importantly a public option. On the flip side, he could expand upon part of his speech from earlier today, saying that the time for debate has ended, the time for action has come, here’s what this bill is going to include, with or without support form the GOP, period. That would be a very different story, and could potentially save this entire endeavor. But, in the opinion of this observer, there is more than the ultimate fate of healthcare reform at stake on Wednesday night.

And
Taking Things Off The Table
by Chris Weigant
Excerpt:
Obama has to talk about these details Wednesday. He's got to draw some sandy lines. He's got to pick up an idea from the table, examine it, and then toss it over his shoulder and say: "Nah, we're not going to do that, instead we're going to do this...."
And
In other words, Obama thought he could "lead" on healthcare reform without staking out risky positions which might have caused his support to drop. He pushed bipartisanship long after it became obvious that Republicans were never going to vote for anything the president wanted. And, by doing so -- by supposedly taking the "safe" political route, to reduce risk of losing anyone's support -- Obama lost a lot of support anyway. The only difference is he didn't gain anything for this loss in support. If Obama had stood up strongly for one plan or another, and seen a 10-point drop in his job approval ratings, at least everyone could say: "He stood up for what he wanted, even though it cost him political capital to do so." Instead, Obama has lost those 10 points anyway -- for no gain whatsoever. He has squandered this political capital, instead of using it wisely.
