“MSNBC, Thanks for Melissa Harris-Perry & Ezra Klein”

Short and sweet! That was a title from KCK, a diarist on DailyKos. com.
I am a firm believer of a universal thought. I have seen so many, many commenters write, “That’s just what I was thinking” and “You took the words right out of my mouth” and “You pushed the send button seconds before I did”.

I have heard of instances wherein scientist in different parts of the world with no contact with each other coming up with identical conclusions at the same time.

I have found if you wait long enough, someone on Dkos is going to publish your thoughts and they may even do it better than you would have. (Smile)

Negroes worked on Plantations

In the political environment of today, there are those all aflutter over a statement made by Black Rep. Allen West (R-Fl).

Mr. West compared other Blacks in Congress and some in leadership positions to the white “overseer” workers on a slave plantation.

The general public has been nurtured to associate “Negro” with “Nigger” and, in my opinion, there is a world of difference between the two words. Therein lie the problem.

In public and legal accounts I have read from slave owners, Blacks were called Negroes and *Negroes working on the plantation, for whatever reason, at times referred to each other as Niggers which is a practice that continues amongst us to this day. In the Black world, there is a big difference between a Negro and a Nigger. Plantation slaves had little to no choices. I do not think Negroes on a plantation would have called Harriet Tubman a Nigger, but then…..

S&P gave America a spanking...

and America, just as any other well-adjusted spoiled brat, is contemplating patricide.

Cheers for Michael Steele

The slap in the face was un-mistakable when a prominent member of the Republican party urged his colleagues to dump Michael Steele as their party chairman. He said “…anyone but Michael Steele!”

Mr. Steele was party chairman of the National Republican Committee and, in my opinion, valiantly served from January 2009 to January 2011. I was very proud of him. However, the press was relentless in recording (hounding) his every move 24/7 American style.

Now that Mr. Steele has lost his chairmanship, I would be hard pressed naming his successor without a Google search. From all appearances, that position has gone by the way of high button shoes and spats. There is nothing I have seen or heard regarding what the new chairman has said or done which speaks volumes regarding the press. Suddenly, the position is irrelevant, not important, no longer of concern.

The good news is Mr. Steele has landed on his feet. He continues to articulate clear and meaningful political positions in his new position as an analyst on television channel MSNBC. I am still very proud of him. I saw him on The Rachel Maddow Show last evening.

If things were different, that same Republican “patriot” who wanted Mr. Steele booted out of his chairmanship would be the very one stroking him for a run for President in 2012. He knows Mr. Steele would be a formidable contender compared to Michele Bachman and Rick Perry but our dear patriot has issues.

P.S. During his tenure, Mr. Steele was stripped of his capacity to spend money from certain funds on Republican candidates and I wonder if that sweet deal has been re-instated? (crickets)

Boxed in with Rick Perry

I get furious when I think the media is trying to manipulate me and I feel that way now!

I have always felt Republicans, Wall Street and the Oligarchy would reward Pres. Obama for his “good work” by putting up a candidate he could easily beat with one arm tied behind his back. I have thoughts there are tacit agreements between the “powers that be” and the President that implies if they are satisfied with him for various reasons, his Presidency is safe and will not be challenged.

Further, the implications would be stated thus; even if your constituents don’t want you to remain in your position as President or have desires to entertain challengers, voters will be forced to make a choice between you and an intellectually and *educationally challenged opponent. We will do our part making sure they choose you. They will have no choice.

Enter Michele Bachman and Rick Perry and to hell with Ron Paul.

* The four year college transcript of Rick Perry was published last week and one can only make comical guesses regarding the transcript of Michele Bachman.

Ron Paul: Irrelevant at #2?

When: August, 2011

Where: Ames, Iowa

What: Straw Poll voting for Republican candidate “…most likely to succeed”. A fund raiser.

Winners: Michele Bachman #1, Ron Paul #2, Tim Pawlenty #3

Results: Tim Pawlenty drops out of Presidential race after published results of the poll and Rick Perry, who was not in the race, is all in the news today.

Opinion: I have heard enough of what Michele Bachman has to say. I would love to hear more from the number two man, Ron Paul. I think he has a lot to say and, dammit, I want to hear it! Rick Perry is establishment, Deja Vous, an *empty suit.

Tid bit: Social Security Administration, born August 14, 1935.
Ron Paul, born August 20, 1935.

As always,
BB
P.S. I heard a rewarding interview of Ron Paul on the Piers Morgan Show this early morning. It was a re-run from yesterday.

*An empty suit tends to refer to a non-important person — perhaps someone puffed up with his own importance but really having little effect on the lives of others.

Would a “WPA 2011” program save America?

Definition: WPA=The Works Progress Administration

The is a lot of talk about putting people to work. With un-employment at 9.1 percent by some accounts, there are frequent references to Pres. FDR and The Works Progress Administration (WPA) of 1929.

I wanted to find out more about the WPA and found this amazing article referenced below. With all of the positives of the program listed in the article, I strongly suspect there is a lot of nostalgia associated with it.

I am not aware of any great novel or movie associated with the era. With such a successful program, one would think it would be captured big time in some form as a positive part of our history. There should have been a least one great romantic novel about the lives of two people meeting at one of the work sites or even a love song or two and the novel and movie, "Grapes of wrath" is a different can of worms.

As far as I know, there is nothing extolling neither the positives or negatives of the WPA period that lasted, according to the article, for eight years.

At this time, the 900 pound gorilla in the room is the question of having the program return or something like it. Somewhere along the way, the only thing I heard about the WPA program was no Blacks were in it and if unions were involved, what I heard may well be true.

It would be interesting seeing how the Obama administration is going to solve the un-employment problem facing the nation.

P.S. I admit I do not know the relationship between WPA and the Roosevelt CCC Camps and I have perhaps made erroneous relationships:
First CCC Camp in the Nation
Excerpt:
Camp Roosevelt was the first of many camps to spring up across the country. The CCC was part of Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal, and was designed to provide jobs for thousands of unemployed young men to work towards conservation on a national scale. 4 When President Roosevelt took office in 1933 he faced a nation that was bankrupt in money and spirit. One of his first acts was to ask Congress for a large appropriation for emergency conservation work. This resulted in the passage, in March 1933, of the Emergency Work Act, or as it came to be called the "Civilian Conservation Corps." It was a program to recruit thousands of young men to work in forests, parks, lands and water in the preservation and use of basic natural resources.

WPA Historical Records Survey
by Steve Paul Johnson, July 28, 1999
Excerpt:
When the Great Depression hit the United States in 1929, the American economy hit rock bottom. The value of the dollar became nearly worthless and millions of Americans lost their jobs. In 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt introduced "The New Deal", a series of new programs designed to pick America back up on to its feet and get the economy moving again.

And
The WPA was responsible for building structures, such as airports, seaports, and bridges. It paved 651,000 miles of road, built 78,000 bridges, 8,000 parks, and 800 airports. The WPA also funded some programs in the humanities, including the Federal Arts Project, Federal Writers Project, Federal Theatre Project, National Health Survey, and the Historical Records Survey (HRS).

And
While critics might argue that federal money was wasted on unnecessary projects, it is clear that the work of the WPA fostered a greater appreciation for the arts and humanities. The thousands of publicly accessible paintings, writings, plays, and music, stimulated the people's appreciation of the arts. The thousands of parks and recreational facilities built by the WPA, is the reason why we have become used to having so many parks and facilities nearby.

I hope Elizabeth Warren does not run for U.S. Senate

On the political scene of today, we are face to face with the scum of the earth! Deceit, treachery, back-stabbing, unfair censuring, you name it.

In my opinion, the report from Standard and Poor’s aptly addresses our political environment and I personally would not like to see Ms. Warren subjected to any more of it.

I have no illusions regarding my profound respect for Ms. Warren.

Ms. Warren has touched the third rail of Wall Street and its re-actions to date are timid compared to re-actions she would receive seeking a seat in the U.S. Senate. We have all witnessed the long and lethal tentacles of Wall Street.

Having Ms. Warrens’ personal life dragged through the mud is something I do not want to see and I am sure neither does her family or friends. I hope she can continue to find solace in her teaching career.

For compassionate reasons, I would not vote for Ms. Warren to be a U.S. Senator but I would vote for her being considered “A National Treasure”. I am mindful of the words of Pres. Harry Truman: “If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.”

Signs Point to Senate Run by Elizabeth Warren

By Caroline M. McKay, CRIMSON STAFF WRITER
Excerpt:
“I left Washington, but I don’t plan to stop fighting for middle class families. I spent years working against special interests and have the battle scars to show it – and I have no intention of stopping now,” Warren wrote on Blue Mass Group, a left-leaning blog.

And
Warren was recently passed over to lead the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau, the agency that she was widely credited with setting up. As a result of her outspoken advocacy to increase regulations on banks and hedge funds, Warren has emerged as a darling of the left, leading many leading Democrats in Washington to urge her to challenge Brown.
