Diarist blackwaterdog and freedom of speech

It is my understanding due to negative feedback photo-journalist and diarist blackwaterdog has considered withdrawing her valuable contributions to the web site Dkos.

I am mindful and paraphrase what African-American poet Maya Angelou replied when asked what to do when you get writer’s block or for whatever reason become down and out: “Go re-read some of your own writings.”

I respectfully suggest diarist and photo-journalist blackwaterdog looking at some of her past contributions to Dkos. I suggest blackwaterdog taking a fresh look as to why she is venerated by so many. I suggest she may want to do this alone or in the company of a small group of close friends.

If she does this with a small group of friends, I would bet my mortgage payment a conversation would ensue asking her to consider the “…slings and arrows” Pres. Obama has to suffer, morphing into dialogs that rendering her unique and brilliant brand of comfort to the President and his family, and to others who also love him and wish him well, is meaningful.

To my knowledge, blackwaterdog is the only person doing this. I drink a toast to her saying, "Bravo!" to which I sincerely hope the reply is, "Yes, I can!"
As always,

And
Blackwaterdog's Photo Diaries and Why They Matter
by CatM
Excerpt:
A diary is one person's effort to communicate something that they feel is important or interesting to others. Historically on Daily Kos, diaries have typically been about political or social issues. On that score, Blackwaterdog's photo essays meet that requirement.

And
The photo diaries serve to humanize Obama and other politicians and give us glimpses into the personal side of being president--or being the president's wife or children. In my view, some have mischaracterized the diaries as "odes" or "worship" of Obama. That is not what I see in them. As much as I disliked George Bush, I would have found photo diaries of him just as interesting.

And
To Blackwaterdog, I encourage you not to stop posting because some people have criticized or attacked your diaries. Clearly, they have a welcome audience here, even if it does not include everyone. We are never able to please everyone and that need not be your goal.

Sen. Sam Coburn likes un-emotional people

So it is, Republican Sen. Coburn has used TV and radio talk show hostess Rachel Maddow as an example of someone emotionally expressing themself. This is apparently antithetical to his own beliefs and, by extension, those of his party. In other words, if you are going to demonize (destroy?) someone, you should not be emotional about it. The good Senator really let the genie out of the bottle on this one.

Article excerpt:
Coburn used the example of an MSNBC anchor to make his point: “Look at Rachel Maddow. She comes at me on the basis of emotion. She demonizes me. I don’t want conservatives to win on the basis of emotion. If we lower ourselves to the level they operate on, we hurt ourselves and our arguments.”

P.S. True, I may have taken the words Sen. Coburn spoke out of context but not the personality I heard behind them.

Hello, America…

As some of you have probably figured out by now, I got into this position not by chance, but by taking advantage of your stupidity and ignorance. To put it another way, your lack of sophistication.

While you were wallowing in your stupidity and ignorance, I was able to successfully introduce greed (Smile) into the variable and with less luck than even I anticipated, I was able to trump you. The key was leading and coaching you into seeing and doing things my way.

When I came to your country, you had a society. A rudimentary one, but a society none the less. It was during your Reconstruction Era and I was more than happy to help you reconstruct your society. Boy, was I ever! (Smile)

You had your rudimentary educational system which I was able to help you reconstruct with pleasure, but it had to be my way and I could not be happier with the results. The fundamentals of my reconstruction efforts are playing out to this day with my faithful and dedicated minions in Texas creating text books for the whole country and, at this time, you can do nothing about the content of the books and the continuance of your mis-education. I smile at that accomplishment.

When I came here to America, you had your dominant religion. It took me a while getting you to rid yourself of those offensive symbols. You had them almost everywhere I would look. You had them in your morning prayers with little children in school houses, in your pledge of allegiance to your flag, you had them in your prayers before sports games, your prayers before assemblies of almost any variety and even at some political events. I must say there was always here a religious symbol, there a religious symbol, everywhere a religious symbol all over the place.

I must say your religious symbols, and I haven't gotten to the ones in your Christmas songs, got on my damn nerves! I must say, and again with great pleasure, you eventually and once again saw things my way and did the right thing. You did me proud. Are you beginning to feel my drift? (Smile)

I must say my biggest triumph is when you turned your monetary system over to me. You actually let me control it. And with the various institutional building blocks I had in place, it was a piece of cake. Now I had money to buy anything I wanted and that included your entire media, including your venerable Hollywood. I was able to buy products essential to your day to day living, passing certain bills like NAFTA and the list goes on and on.

I have to laugh and I mean no harm but you were a bunch of stupid and ignorant suckers! Sorry ‘bout that and you know, (Smile) you know the funny part of it all? You are still stupid and ignorant without a clue as to what’s going on and I could not be happier. Now if I can only keep you thinking it’s not me but the Blacks, the world and America with its military might are mine! Mine, you hear me? Mine!!! (Faustian LOL going into hysteria…..curtain!)

“The Return of Cream, Payback”

By Solomon Jones has me gasping for emotional controls these last few pages. And the pages before that had me literally trying to devoice myself from the emotions I was experiencing while reading passages wherein a fourteen year old boy was sharing the emotions he had regarding the death of his mother with Cream who had experienced the same emotions only hours before. I was crying! To say the novel‘s “…gatta hold of me” is a gross understatement!

I think I am a bit embarrassed! It’s a beautiful day and I was sitting on the back porch reading and……WOW! I was blown away! Those young’uns sure know how to pull at your heart strings. I hope I can get through the rest of this story…..

Economic cell doors opening for many Blacks…

A case could unquestionably be made if the Small Business Administration (SBA) were not so- let me use the right word here- selective in its practice, more American citizens would be dealing with the deficit on a first-hand basics. As a matter of fact, the deficit just may not have grown to be as big as it has ie., less dependence on borrowing. In my opinion, the positives of such an occurrence far outweighs the realities of it not being so.

The SBA is being *sued and there is not much more I can say other than the successful outcome of the law suit would lessen barriers preventing America from becoming the great country many have envisioned.

This suit is a big deal for me due to the fact its success will help children and grand-children of Blacks not only to compete in lucrative job markets but also give them pride in helping pay down the national debt. To be sure and within structures of the oligarchy, there is worry regarding “hat-in hand” from Blacks. Worry no more! Help is on the way. The man sang the song, “….you don’t have to give me nothin’! Just open the door, I’ll get it myself”.
SBA
The mission of the Small Business Administration is "to maintain and strengthen the nation's economy by enabling the establishment and viability of small businesses and by assisting in the economic recovery of communities after disasters."
The SBA does not make loans directly to small businesses but does help to educate and prepare the business owner to apply for a loan through a financial institution or bank. The SBA then acts as a guarantor on the bank loan. In some circumstances it also helps to procure loans to victims of natural disasters, works to get government procurement contracts for small businesses, and assists businesses with management, technical and training issues.
The SBA has directly or indirectly helped nearly 20 million businesses and in 2008 had a loan portfolio of roughly 219,000 loans worth more than $84 billion making it the largest single financial backer of businesses in the United States.[3]

Details regarding the suit..
* U.S. Small Business Administration
Posted by Robin Caldwell in The District
Excerpt:
On March 29, 2010, Federal District Court Judge Kessler, ruled against the SBA’s attempt to dismiss Diamond’s landmark lawsuit against the SBA, setting the stage for the agency to stand trial for discriminatory practices in its Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) program. The Judge found credible testimony and reports that the program had:

1. only .86% (two persons) of  the 350 licensed managers in the program who were African-American  managers;

2. that SBA’s own statistics show black owned firms received just  2.55% of SBA approved financing;

3. that .49% of all SBA dollars were to black owned firms illustrating that SBA’s policies for decades have had  a disparate discriminatory impact on blacks and minorities.

And
Kauffman Foundations that while African-Americans are 50% more likely to start a business than whites they still face a higher level of difficulty trying to maintain funding, often resorting to more expensive ways of financing businesses (mortgage refinances, credit card debt, etc.) despite having smaller personal financial wealth.  You can see how the odds can be against African-American entrepreneurs at the onset.  If anything comes from this discussion it should be that at a minimum education initiatives are needed in our communities about alternative financing options outside of traditional business loans.

And
It’s long over due that the SBA comply to an Open Government, just as many agencies have already transformed into since Obama’s inauguration into the White House.
