You called them and they came

You know you called them and now “the chickens have come home to roost”. What did you expect enticing whole families to come here due to your greed and desires to have cheap labor? Is it so hard for you to see and understand the sequence of events? Perhaps at first it was the father or the son. You did not care who it was, all you wanted was cheap labor and you did not care how you would get it. You told them this was the land of milk and honey and so they believed you. And they came.

You had them landscaping your yards, working as migrant workers and handymen and nannies and maids for you and your children. You let them know they did not have to speak English or pay very much for housing and above all, they would not have to pay for medical attention when needed. You would take care of all that for them because you felt that was the price, the small price, of having such a large and cheap labor pool.

You had signs made for them in Spanish. Told the schools they had to hire extra teachers for their children and you even told them if they wanted to hear the message in Spanish, press ONE. No need for you to pretend you do not know what I am talking about. You know all to well.

Your hand at social engineering has overwhelmed our financial system or perhaps decimated is the better word and now your empire here in America is seriously threatened. The shoe is on the other foot. You are fighting for your life and you are on the proverbial respirator. You gasp to have one more breath to make a killing before your ultimate demise and you know it is coming soon.

There is such an irony you never thought of; you never thought your greed would be your Achilles’ heel as it has become. It is now you crying “Uncle!” and we are going to get our Public Option. “Your chickens have come home to roost.” Here, here now, stop crying, man! Take my handkerchief and blow your nose while you’re at it. I’ll call for your car.
As always,
BB

The Cat Won't Go Back In The Bag

Excerpt:
My spouse and I battled our health insurer for over 18 months to get coverage for our autistic child's speech therapy.  The battle was finally resolved in March and we won. No one, and I repeat, no one, could loathe their insurer more than I.  But after watching and listening to the health care "debate" (or debacle if you prefer), I hate them even more and it has surprised me.

I'm Done. My Child's Life Can't Wait on Another Speech or Vain Hopes for Bipartisanship.

Excerpt:
My baby, my first born child, my son, the bravest person I know, was feeling abandoned by his countrymen, by his government. For he was born with rare, forever, life threatening health issues. Issues that proved the lie about the just work hard, study hard, pull yourself up by your bootstrap individualism mythos.  No where in the Contract for America was mention made of overwhelming circumstances. With the stroke of a pen and a well turned phrase, my son and millions like him, were made invisible.

And
Nothing much seems to have changed in the intervening years. At least politically. The big changes have been with the American people. There are more people with either no insurance, my son being one, or at risk of losing what they do have. The stats say that 14 to 18000 people a year are dying from lack of health care. Is that figure true for the last sixteen years? Could that mean almost 300,000 Americans have died due to lack of health care since President Clinton's speech? 200,000? 100,000?
