Could ten million dollars influence my vote?
I imagine a lot of people would show up at your front door if you announced your willingness to spend ten million dollars to support a political candidate. Human nature being what it is, they would work at your pleasure, doing and saying things beyond your wildest dreams supporting your ten million dollar aspirations.
- Mr. Adelson, my name is Hill and have I got a deal for you! With my ties to companies making commercials, you can sit back and relax. Here’s the deal. I can make 30 second commercials from now until kingdom comes and get them on every TV network in the country. I can get every TV host to mention the latest commercial we make and show the commercial on his or her show. I can get all of them to do it.
-You can do that?
- I’ve got connections. I can do that and more. I’ll put the word out that through your generosity you would make generous contributions to newspapers and blogs, websites, polling services, anything whatever that supports your candidate and discredits the President. They are to do it at every possible turn he makes, anytime, anywhere.
-You can do that??
-As soon as you put the funds in my account.
-How much would it cost me?
-Ten million dollars and of course (ahem) that includes my fees. Do we have a deal?
-What if Obama wins?
-Think positive, Mr. Adelson, think positive, man.
-Sold! Where do I sign?
-(Both sing and dance) “Happy days are here again…..”
