Texas: Mis-Education, American style

Ever since I can remember in my adult years, American students have come near the bottom of the list when compared to students world-wide.

Student scores have come below students from countries that make you scratch your head and to my knowledge, America has never been in the over-all top five levels on the lists.

Most concerned citizens languish over the results and I have noticed the list is no longer readily available as in the past.

I am mindful hearing from people who have visited other countries saying citizens of that country know more about America than they do.

While I do not know if school systems can reject certain text book publications, it is going to be interesting seeing how individual school systems deal with the Social Studies Curriculum recently approved by the Texas Schools Board of Education.

As the article below indicates, it appears America will continue placing our students and their parents in embarrassing situations both locally and world-wide, and with all that is said and done, never ready for prime-time.

As the famous boxing manager would say, “Only in America”. Sad.

Texas SBOE passes new curriculum UPDATED

Excerpt:
The Texas SBOE Theocrats won. This is a sad day for children. The vote for the high school standards broke along party lines, with Republican supporting them and all Democrats voting no.

And
Controversy-wracked social studies standards won approval Friday as the State Board of Education voted 9-5 for the curriculum that will shape history books for Texas public schools. Angry minority members of the board reacted harshly against the standards, which they claim glorify white America’s role in history while avoiding the issues of racial discrimination.

Comment…
Contact your own school board (4+ / 0-)
and make sure they have nothing to do with purchasing these textbooks.
They may want to consider moving towards e-books.  Textbook companies can make changes to an electronic version at less cost.  It could be a viable option for small school districts.
