Mitt Romney and Scott Brown: We’re white and you’re not!
We Blacks recognize the race card when we see it. Most of us have seen it during our entire lives and especially during our adult and senior years. If memory serves me correctly, Rev. Al Sharpton once said, (Paraphrased) “Nobody could play the race card if it weren’t in the deck”.
In my opinion, the good Gov. Romney and many of his surrogates have without shame played and continue playing the race card in this Presidential election. A few months ago there was talk Romney had no message; media was accusing him of not having meaningful talking points and that he was rudderless and up the creek without a paddle. According to them, he was a Presidential candidate without a pot to sit on.
However, amidst all the sashaying rhetoric from the media, I was hearing another drummer. I was hearing Gov. Romney, with the greatest of arrogance, messaging the only issue he felt was important to his campaign: “I’m white and the President isn’t”.
The magical powers of the race card can not be under-valued. Its powers have shaped American culture for centuries and truth to tell, it works. The longevity of its life is a testament to its powers. There are few who would deny that the race card has made America the country it is today.
To my surprise, * Sen. Scott Brown decided to play a card game with his opponent Elizabeth Warren. Mr. Brown also feels, as does Gov. Romney, he has an advantage playing with a deck of cards imbedded with the venerated and dicey race card. (I'm mindful of the song, "Luck, be a lady tonight")
I drink a toast to Gov. Romney and Sen. Brown and wish them well in this brand new world of social networking. At the end of this political season, much will be learned about 21st century America with all its new laws and inventions.
Fighting for the dignity of my Ancestors,
God bless Bill Gates, WPFW, C-SPAN and the spirits of the unborn for the help,
